Nova Scotia Hybrid Vehicle Rebate Program

Nova Scotia has introduced a new incentive program to promote the adoption of hybrid vehicles, including PHEV vehicles. The Nova Scotia Hybrid Vehicle Rebate Program offers rebates for both new and used electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, encouraging residents of the province to make more environmentally friendly choices when it comes to transportation. The program covers a wide range of cars, including new and used models with different seating capacities.

Eligible Vehicles

New Vehicles

For new vehicles, the rebate applies to electric cars with six seats or fewer. In this case, the base trim MSRP should be less than $45,000. Higher-priced trims, up to a maximum MSRP of $55,000, can also be eligible. Vehicles with seven seats or more, with a base model MSRP less than $55,000, are also eligible for a rebate, with higher-priced trims up to a maximum MSRP of $60,000.

Demonstrator vehicles with less than 10,000 km can also qualify for rebates if they meet the other criteria. All vehicles must meet federal and provincial motor vehicle safety standards and be intended for use on public streets and highways. Electric motorcycles, scooters, and off-road vehicles are not eligible for rebates.

Used Vehicles

Used electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are also eligible for rebates in this program. The rebate amounts vary based on the type and size of the vehicle. Battery electric vehicles with six seats or less also receive a rebate of $3,000, while those with seven seats or more can receive the rebate amount. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with six seats or fewer are eligible for a rebate of $2,000, while those with seven seats or more can receive the same amount.

Used battery electric vehicles of any size, with a retail price between $10,000 and $55,000, are eligible for a rebate of $2,000. Used plug-in hybrid electric vehicles of any size, with a retail price between $10,000 and $55,000, are eligible for a rebate of $1,000.

Leased Vehicles

The program also extends to leased vehicles. Eligible new vehicles leased for a minimum of one year can receive a prorated rebate based on the length of the lease. For example, a 48-month lease would be eligible for the full rebate amount for the eligible vehicle, while a 24-month lease would receive half of the rebate amount.

Conclusion

This rebate program is a step towards encouraging consumers in Nova Scotia to choose hybrid vehicles and reduce their carbon footprint. By offering financial incentives, the program aims to make environmentally friendly choices more accessible and affordable for residents of the province. With the rising popularity of hybrid vehicles globally, this program will contribute to the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation options in Nova Scotia.
